As part of the implementation of the recommendations of the 2012 edition of Open Day on the 1325 Resolution of the UN Security Council (UNSC), the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in collaboration with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Mano River Union and other partners members of the Working Group "Women, Peace and Security in West Africa" (WGWPS-WA), decided to set up a database on "Gender, Women, Peace and Security in West Africa" .

The purpose of the database is to improve the effectiveness of information and knowledge sharing on "Gender, Women, Peace and Security" through the establishment of a platform listing all the institutions involved in these areas, the results of studies, documents, tools and other information or media information on gender, women, peace and security in all countries of West Africa and accessible to all.
